JOB SUMMARY
The City of Stephenville is seeking a part-time Summer Camp Counselor. This position works under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator. As a Recreation Assistant, you will perform a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks regarding supervision and interaction with children during the time of summer camp at parks and recreation facilities.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Develops a positive relationship with the public by responding to phone, walk-in patrons, email, and fax inquiries.

Counselors will provide participants with an environment in which they can feel safe, enjoy wholesome recreation activities, and participate in appropriate social opportunities with their peers.

Counselors will be responsible to know and follow all City, Departmental, and Program standards, policies, and procedures that apply to the City of Stephenville Youth Programs.

Counselors must ensure that participants are released only to a parent or an adult designated by the parent. All program sites will have a copy of the Department approved plan to verify the identity of a person authorized to pick up a participant if that person is not known to the leader.

Lead, supervise, and conduct athletics, childcare room, and recreation program classes and activities.

Supervise children properly and respond immediately during emergencies, including administering first aid as necessary.

Effectively communicate with children, parents/guardians, and the public
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must be a U.S. Citizen

Must have a valid Texas driver’s license, and currently have and maintain a satisfactory driving record

Counselors must pass a background investigation including testing for illegal substances

Must be sixteen (16) years of age or older

Counselors should be able to consistently exhibit competency, good judgment, and self-control when working with children
-
Counselors must relate to children with courtesy, respect, tolerance, and patience

Counselors must have completed a course in first aid and Cardio Pulmonary
-
Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid for Infant/Child/Adult with AED based on either American Heart Association or American Red Cross standard
