Garbage Collection

 

All trash services inside the city limits, trash totes, roll-off and dumpster services are to be coordinated through Waste Connections at 254-968-8173 or the Water Department 254-918-1230 for set up service.

During Thanksgiving week, normal operations will occur Monday through Wednesday. No pick-ups will occur Thursday; however, Thursday’s schedule will run Friday, and Friday will run Saturday. The bulk route will still be carried out on Thursday’s and Friday’s with a cut off time of previous day at 3 pm depending on your current route.

Once you locate your address by putting it in the search bar on, there is a map Legend in the top right corner, if you click on the drop down to see the correlating dates. PolyCarts

Trash should be placed inside the PolyCarts provided and placed within 2 to 3 feet of the curb and clear of obstructions like parked cars or mailboxes.

Lost, stolen or damaged PolyCarts should be reported to Waste Connections for replacement.

Bulky Items

If your trash service pickup days are Monday and Thursday, your weekly bulk item pickup day is Thursday.

If your trash service pickup days are Tuesday and Fridays, your weekly bulk item pickup day is Friday.

Residents must make an appointment with Waste Connections by 3 pm the day prior to their bulk item pick up day in order to have their bulk items picked up. Residents can call Waste Connections @ 254-968-8173 and schedule an appointment, or use the Report a Problem Form to schedule an appointment.

Tree, shrub, and brush trimmings or newspapers and magazines should be securely tied together forming an easily handled package not exceeding 4 feet in length or 50 pounds in weight.  No pallets.

**Per Section 1 of the Solid Waste Franchise Agreement**  

Bag - Plastic sacks, secured at the top, designed to store refuse with sufficient wall strength to maintain physical integrity when lifted by the top.  Total weight of a bag and its contents shall not exceed thirty-five (35) pounds.

Bulky Item - Any item NOT measuring in excess of either seventy-two (72) inches in length or one hundred fifty (150) pounds in weight, including, but not limited to, refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, water tanks, chairs, couches, and other similar household items.

Bundles - Items not measuring in excess of either forty-eight (48) inches in length or fifty (50) pounds in weight and which are securely fastened together, including, but not limited to, brush, newspapers and tree trimmings.

White Good - Any item not measuring in excess of either two (2) cubic yards in size or one-hundred fifty (150) pounds in weight and that is manufactured primarily from metal, including, but not limited to, a bath tub, heater, hot water heater, refrigerator, sink or washer and dryer.

DOES NOT include the collection of Bulky Items and Bundles comprised of the following:

  • Construction and Demolition Waste
  • White Goods
  • ANY materials resulting from remodeling, general property clean-up or clearing of property for the preparation of construction

Recyclable Materials

  • Paper - Newspapers, magazines, catalogs, and other paper item such as mail, paper bags or other paper
  • Metal - Metal cans composed of tin, steel or aluminum (excluding scrap metal)
  • Plastic - Plastic containers including all varieties of the types designated as #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 and #7
    • #1  PETE -  Polyethylene Terepthalate
    • #2 HDPE - High Density Polyethylene
    • #3 V - Polyvinyl Chloride
    • #4 LDPE - Low Density Polyethylene
    • #5 PP - Polypropylene
    • #7 OTHER - Other plastics

Citizens are urged to recycle, though it is not mandatory. Items can be taken to:

  • Recycling Convenience Center located in the Waste Connections complex located at 1291 North Bates. The Convenience Center is open Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Appliances, such as washers, dryers, refrigerators, when red-tagged by a certified technician for freon extraction, etc. may be taken to the city landfill or Stephenville Iron and Metal located at 3229 N. US Highway 377, they can be reached at 254-968-4766 for hours of operation. Local compost companies accept leaves, grass, and shrubbery clippings.

Disabled/Handicap

Citizens who are disabled or otherwise have difficulties handling the PolyCart can request help with pickup by calling Waste Connections. A special route allows seniors to leave their PolyCart in a place of their choosing and the garbage collector will roll their cart to the street, connect it to the automated arm, empty the cart, and roll it back to the place where it was found. There is no charge for the service.

Hazardous Waste

No hazardous, toxic, or radioactive waste. Please see the attached flyer for the event. Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event is scheduled for Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Municipal Service Center located at 1201 Glen Rose Road, Stephenville, Texas 76401.

Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Collection Event

The Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center, located at 6400 Bridge Street, Fort Worth, Texas (with easy access from I-30 and 820, just east of downtown) has the availability to receive household hazardous waste year-around drop off on Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you have questions, in regards to waste handling instructions please visit the Environmental Collection Center website, or call 817-392-1234.

Electronics Recycling

Electronics Recycling Event is scheduled for Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 0 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Municipal Service Center, 1201 Glen Rose Highway.  If you have questions about this event, please call Karen Wilkerson at 254-918-1292.
