Finance

The Finance Department, under the supervision of the finance director, is responsible for the administration, supervision, and overall planning for the city’s financial activities. This includes recording financial activities, maintaining the permanent accounting records, investment of idle funds, the annual budget, preparation of financial statements and special reports for various staff and council members, overseeing all disbursements and collections, payroll, and assisting the auditors in the preparation of the comprehensive annual financial report.

Purchasing

The purchasing agent is responsible for coordinating the requisition of materials between city departments and vendors by administering city-purchasing policies. This includes requests for purchase orders and preparing bid requests for all departments. Vendors and interested parties may visit our Purchasing Department for detailed information or contact the Purchasing Manager at 254-918-1227 to request bid specifications and bid closing dates.

Municipal Court

The primary function of the city’s Municipal Court is to preside over all Class C Misdemeanors charged within the territorial limits of the city. Duties include receiving and maintaining court dockets; issuing warrants, subpoenas, and notices; perfecting appeal bonds; attending court sessions; and performing all duties prescribed by state law. The Municipal Court is held at Stephenville City Hall, 298 W. Washington.

Property Taxes

Funds have been designated for the city’s prorated portion of the costs for the Erath County Appraisal District, and of the publicly mandated central collection and assessment by Erath County. This division will perform no appraisals, collection, or assessments.
